Ozone Therapy

Ozone Therapy is when small amounts of ozone are introduced to the body (internally and externally) that triggers healthy cells and moderates oxidative stress. This oxidative stress generates a number of chemical messengers for activating crucial biological functions.

BENEFITS OF OZONE THERAPY

  • Ozone increases Oxygenation: Ozone increases dissolved oxygen levels in the blood which results in increased ATP (energy).
  • Ozone improves Antioxidant Systems: Increases antioxidants in response to the oxidative stress induced by ozone. This increase not only protects from oxidation and inflammation but also helps with chronic oxidative stress.
  • Ozone improves Energy Levels: Increased free dissolved oxygen means an increase in ATP (energy) production which is also a powerful mitochondrial stimulant.
  • Ozone is Anti-inflammatory: Ozone triggers an increase in the production of antioxidants that protect cells from oxidation and inflammation.
  • Ozone is Anti-Microbial: Ozone produces a direct oxidative effect on bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microbes. A sufficient amount of ozone can break through the cell membrane and destroy the organism.
  • Ozone is Analgesic (Painkiller): Ozone has an analgesic effect by oxidation on the nerve endings in the damaged tissue. Analgesic effects are also brought on by the increase in antioxidants, a reduction in inflammation and improved oxygenation.
  • Ozone improves Elasticity of Red Blood Cells: Ozone can decrease blood thickness and viscosity, resulting in easier circulation, stimulated dilation and relaxed artery walls.
  • Ozone supports Detoxification: Ozone activates metabolic processes in hepatic and renal tissues, meaning their main functions of neutralisation and elimination of toxic compounds are ensured.
  • Ozone heals Mucus Membranes (Leaky Gut): Ozone triggers a strong tissue repair mechanism that is useful in healing scars, wounds and mucus membranes.

AREAS OF OZONE USE

Ozone has been used for over 80 years. Currently, there are almost 50,000 medical practitioners that deal with ozone on a daily basis in over 100 countries.

SIDE EFFECTS OF OZONE THERAPY

  • Ozone is toxic for inhalation: The lungs only have a small amount of antioxidants which are insufficient to counteract the strong oxidative effects of ozone. But in the case of blood and internal components, both plasma and blood cells have a remarkable quantity of antioxidants that are able to handle ozone making it non-toxic in recommended amounts.
  • Ozone adverse reactions: The incidence of ozone-related adverse reactions are very low – 0.000007% (one of the lowest in medicine). Allergic skin reactions are possible from ozone, although they are very uncommon.

Ozone Therapy Applications

Pacific Water Technology recommends consulting a medical/therapeutic professional prior to implementing ozone therapy.

OZONE RECTAL INSUFFLATION

Ozone rectal insufflation oxygenates the blood, provides a detoxifying effect, aids in the regeneration of the colon and boosts the immune system.

The setup for ozone therapy involves ozone bags, where oxygen (from an oxygen tank) is fed into an ozone generator that converts oxygen to ozone. The ozone produced is filled into an ozone bag that is attached to the generator. The generator has an in-built ozone destructor that is used to safely dispose of any excess ozone that is not required.

Ozone Therapy Setup – Bag & Catheter: The Ozone bag filled with ozone is connected to a luer catheter. The luer catheter is then inserted rectally and ozone is administered to the body by slowly rolling the ozone bag to expel the ozone within.

OZONE BAGGING

Ozone bagging is the direct application of ozone gas to treat infected/inflamed slow-healing wounds, fungi/yeast infections, diabetic gangrene, radiation burns, etc.

The setup for ozone therapy – limb therapy involving ozone limb bags, where oxygen (from an oxygen tank) is fed into an ozone generator that converts oxygen to ozone. The ozone produced is fed into the ozone limb bag through one of its connectors that is attached to the generator. The other connector in the limb bag is connected to an in-built ozone destructor that is used to safely dispose of any excess ozone that is left over after limb therapy. The limb bag comes with the connectors separately and they have to be attached manually by poking a hole into the limb, position of the connectors are dependent on the specific area being targeted. This gives the user more flexibility in terms of using the limb bag for therapeutic purposes in various areas of the body.

OZONE EAR INSUFFLATION

Ozone ear insufflation is a great method to improve ear infections, vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, etc.

The setup for ozone therapy – ear insufflation involving an ozone stethoscope, where oxygen (from an oxygen tank) is fed into an ozone generator that converts oxygen to ozone. The ozone produced is fed into the ozone stethoscope that is attached to the generator. The stethoscope is placed into the user’s ears for therapeutic applications. NOTE: Low flow rates should be used when ear insufflation is done with an ozone stethoscope in order to not damage the ears. The generator has an in-built ozone destructor that is used to safely dispose of any excess ozone that is not required (generally not used for ear insufflation with a stethoscope).

OZONATING WATER

Ozone water provides a variety of options that are safe, easy and effective. The ozonated water can be used externally on infected wounds, burns, cuts and injuries. Drinking ozone water can increase oxygen uptake, optimise various bodily functions and kill viruses, fungi, mould and bacteria. Using cold water is ideal for ozonating as it binds more ozone molecules and holds them for longer, thus increasing the efficiency of ozone transfer into the water.

The setup for ozone therapy – ozonating water involving an ozone conical glass flask (with 3 hole conical stopper), where oxygen (from the oxygen tank) is fed into an ozone generator that converts oxygen to ozone. The ozone produced is fed into the conical flask that is attached to the generator through one of the holes in the conical stopper. The ozone that is fed into the conical flask gets bubbled into the water through a diffuser stone (ensure the diffuser stone is completely submerged in the water). The second hole (whose tube inside the flask is not submerged in water) is connected to the in-built ozone destructor to dispose of excess ozone safely. The third hole (whose tube inside the flask is submerged in water) is where the ozonated water comes out. The ozonated water can be brought out of the flask by pinching the tube that goes to the in-built ozone destructor. This creates pressure inside the flask and forces out the ozonated water for therapeutic use. The water in the flask can be replenished through the same third hole with the use of a funnel to refill the water (the line to the ozone destructor should not be pinched during refilling).

OZONATING OIL

Ozonating oil is typically used with olive oil. Bubbling ozone into olive oil can be used along with a nasal tube to inhale ozonites (that get released from the oil) to treat infections in your airways, bronchial tubes and lungs. Ensure that ozone is bubbled into the oil when conducting this treatment (i.e. diffuser is completely submerged in oil with the oil level being about 1 cm above the diffuser) as directly inhaling ozone is harmful to health.

The setup for ozone therapy – ozonating oil involving ozone conical glass flask (with 2 hole conical stopper) and nasal tube, where oxygen (from the oxygen tank) is fed into an ozone generator that converts oxygen to ozone. The ozone produced is fed into the conical flask that is attached to the generator through one of the holes in the conical stopper. The ozone that is fed into the conical flask gets bubbled into the oil through a diffuser stone (ensure the diffuser stone is completely submerged into the oil with around a 1 cm gap to the oil surface). The second hole in the conical stopper is attached to the nasal tube which provides the ozonites for inhalation. NOTE: Ensure the conical flask is placed somewhere where it won’t be easily moved, this is because if there is movement and the diffuser stone comes out of the oil, the user will be inhaling ozone rather than ozonites which is harmful to health. Olive oil is generally used for this type of application, the leftover oil after the therapy will be partially ozonated and will retain both the properties of olive oil and ozone making it excellent for use on skin for rejuvenation. The generator has an in-built ozone destructor that is used to safely dispose of any excess ozone that is left over after ozonating oil.
