Polymers & Adsorption Media

PACIFIC WATER TECHNOLOGY has partnered with leading manufacturers in ion exchange and adsorption technology who manufacture a broad range of ion exchange resins for water and wastewater treatment, including deionisation, softening, metals removal, product purification, resource recovery, and pollution control. All resins used in food and potable water applications have FDA approval and NSF/ANSI certification.

ION EXCHANGE: HOW IT WORKS:

Ions are negatively or positively charged atoms or molecules. The ion exchange resins have the opposite charge of the contaminant ions they are treating. This causes contaminants in water pumped through a container of ion exchange resin to be attracted to and stick to the resin similar to the way metal reacts to a magnet. When the contaminant ion attaches to the resin, it displaces another similarly charged ion into the water being treated. That ion is “exchanged” for the contaminant.

In addition, Pacific Water also supplies a range of filtration media, activated carbon and ion exchange membranes. The ion exchange resins also include softening resins, strong acid cation, weak acid cation, strong base anion, weak base anion as well as mixed bed resins. We also supply ion-specific resins capable of removing most metals including iron, antimony, arsenic, manganese, nitrate, perchlorate and other harmful substances including pesticides and organic compounds. All resins for point-of-use applications have been certified to the WQA Gold Seal ANSI/NSF 61 drinking water standard. Below is a list of some of the applications for water treatment:

  • De-chlorination
  • Softening
  • De-alkalisation
  • Ultra-pure water production
  • Nitrate removal
  • Perchlorate removal
  • Arsenic removal
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Removal of naturally occurring organics
  • Condensate polishing
  • Support beds and filtration media
  • Potable water treatment
  • Aquarium treatment
  • VOC removal

The resins also have a large scope of applications other than water treatment:

  • Removal of natural radioactivity
  • Metal finishing applications
  • Pharmaceutical applications
  • EDM treatment
  • Precious metal applications
  • Industrial deionisation
  • Radwaste treatment

PACIFIC WATER TECHNOLOGY also offers a comprehensive range of filtration media including gravel, calcite, corosex, anthracite, KDF and calcor. KDF for instance can be used in potable water treatment for removing chlorine, hydrogen sulphide and some heavy metals. The removal of chlorine prior to reverse osmosis helps protect the membrane in point-of-use applications in increases the longevity and performance of the membrane. A number of types can be supplied including granular activated carbon (GAC), coconut shell activated carbon, pelletised and powdered activated carbon. Granular activated carbon (GAC) is effective in removing chloramines from the potable water supply.
